Leftover Culture Review Update

We were going to make this a video, but after careful deliberation and a poll with a sample size of 1, we decided a Channel Update here instead of an unnecessary video would be more effective.

So the agenda for this post is as follows;

01. First Ever Videogame Donation
02. October will be Halloween Month
03. Videogame Review Schedule and Distribution
04. LOCR – Revisited, Recycled, Re-edited

First up, we’re more than a little excited about receiving our first games donation from Mike in the States. Four games and a Game Genie for the Sega Genesis (the Game Genie being necessary to allow us to bypass region lockout on the Mega Drive for certain NTSC region games).

There were some really awesome games bundled up here and the plan is to have a closer look at them sometime in the future when the schedule isn’t quite so ‘filled up’.

02. Halloween Month

One game that really caught my eye fromt he donation was “Zombies ate my Neighbors!”. A somewhat quintessential Halloween 2-Player run and gun game. Here at the LOCR, we’ve never celebrated Halloween, but, we’re bigger and older now, we might not have permission from Mum, but we’re going to to do it. This October will be Halloween month on the Leftover Culture Review.

Leftover Culture Review October is Halloween Month

Each week for October, we’ll have one new ‘horror-themed’ videogame review. Work for October has begun! I can confirm one review ‘should’ be Zombies ate my Neighbors and I have started work on an article too, but you’ll need to wait until October begins to see what else we’ve got lined up!

03. LOCR Schedule

In order to help us organise all these extra episodes and help us do more in the future, the LOCR is now going to implement a schedule moving forward. To finish off 2013, we’re going to post a new video twice a month, on the 1st and 15th, on Blip and the LOCR website.

When new videos have been published, I firstly send them through to Pat at the Punk Effect to be published next time there’s a free slot. Every other week, I’m going to upload an older video to YouTube. I obviously want to keep content filtering through my YouTube channel, but yes, the advertising opportunities through Blip is actual revenue we receive that goes towards supporting the show.

Occasionally, we also post videos to retroware.tv but since we aren’t a official contributor, whether or not we get featured is beyond our control. It is something we strive for but certainly the website and Blip are the best ways to see all our content as it’s released.

04. LOCR Recycled

Finally, this is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time, the LOCR – Revisited, Re-edited and Recycled. It’s obvious the show has come a really long way since we uploaded our first video ever to Blip.tv (Vigilante on the Sega Master System in August 2011). The problem is, we’ve covered some of our franchises and games early on and we feel they deserve far better than what we’ve produced.

This is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time and we want to do it right. These new reviews should be longer, more informative and much better produced while borrowing a few elements from previous reviews; special effects, game play footage and jokes.

This initially started as a way for me to ‘buy some time’ between regular reviews, some way to catch a bit of breather. As I’ve started work on reviewing the Earthworm Jim series… I’ve begun to realise that might not be the case. These LOCR Recyclables will (as and when they’re ready), replace one of the monthly scheduled episodes. As mentioned we are working on an Earthworm Jim series review as well as a much more informative and refined Trevor McFur in the Cresent Galaxy review.

Thanks for checking in and supporting the show!
