Video Game Resellers Aren’t that Bad

What if they’re just a symptom of an awesome retro Video Game revival?

Video Game Resellers, people who source video games to sell an inflated cost, aren’t exactly popular in the community and have been accused of inflating the general prices of video games, asking outrageous prices for common items and even hoarding certain games to monopolize resale of that item. Pat the NES Punk has done an awesome review and commentary on the Flintstones’ Surprise at Dinosaur Peak for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

The term reseller is a big banner and there’s plenty of cases where people have overcharged but there’s also plenty of moderately priced eBay sellers. I don’t believe resellers are all that bad, I think they’re part of a much bigger revival in classic video games and as they become more desirable, they’ll be worth more.

Thanks to the excitement and money being spent on old school video games, so many more options have opened up to us, such as the virtual network, better emulator support and more Flashback and Plug & Play units.

On one hand, we have easier access than ever to some of our favourite and most memorable games at amazing prices and on the other, if you wanted a complete copy of Earthbound, that’s considered a collectors item and you’ll probably be paying a reseller or another collector for the opportunity to own it yourself.

As I mentioned in the video, I’m bummed that my hobby has started to cost significantly more. I even sold my NES because I couldn’t see myself affording the games for it. I wish I could afford games like the PAL release of Panzer Dragoon Saga but I feel like, as a consumer, there’s been some really exciting products directly due to the money in retro video games. When it comes to indulging in some nostalgia, I’ve got a lot of options.

Is this a good time to discuss emulation? When I produce my leftover Culture Reviews, I’ll usually resort to using an emulator. In terms of production, it’s simply the best video quality available. When I’m gaming, it’s easy to recommend using the official system
