Mighty Max Doom Zone Playset Review
A Mighty Max Doom Zone review for the Battle-Cat playset. Unfortunately, no Battle-Cats or Sabre Toothed-Tigers were actually included in the set itself but we did get a great prehistoric Cave Man themed set.
Mighty Max grapples the battle-cat captured my imagination as a kid. But I always had an issue with the head itself. It feels flat and squashed down. However, This play set does have a great reveal factor . Pulling down the bottom jaw reveals the fangs of the Battle-Cat. Seeing how the jaw is assembled with the trap bone-pit at the bottom. It all looks very cool.
The color scheme here is particularly eye-catching. The brown and purple create a vivid scene and there’s plenty of molded details. Including a tar pit and mastodon rib cage.
There’s some really cool rocky textures in here that extend out to form the walls of Gor’s cave. With animal carcasses hanging from the walls and littered with bones and tools.
So what’s the story?
The story for Mighty Max grapples the battle-cat is that Gor and the battle-cat work together to hunt down Max. Mighty Max bolts and comes face to face with Mastodon who soon gets distracted by the battle-cat. They fight and the battle cat sends the Mastodon to the Tar pit first. Then Max throws a stone at Gor which stuns him. As the Battle-Cat launches itself at Max, the Mighty One dodges and the Battle-Cat falls with Gor into the Tar Pit.
A lot of the story from Mighty Max grapples the battle-cat was reused for the TV episodes. Tar Wars. Instead of Gor wanting to eat Max, they find out it’s been Gor’s job to protect Earth from the Sabre-Tooth tiger when both of them become invincible when an asteroid struck nearby. Max uncovers the asteroid from a tar pit, bringing the Mastodon skeletons back to life. This scares the battle-cat and ultimately, allows Gor to tackle the battle-cat back into the Tar Pit. Pretty heavy stuff.
