LOCR Producer: It’s pretty obvious we have a soft spot for beat ’em up games and also, Alien and Predator games.

The problem with the SNES title was finding it at a good price. A PAL version (at the time of writing) is around $80 (including postage for buy it now), for the German version.

That’s why we decided to introduce the Pro Action Replay Cartridge as well. For a SNES fan living in a PAL territory, it’s cheaper than buying a separate console for NTSC cartridges, and with the prices of PAL cartridges being so inflated, SNES is one of the hardest consoles to buy reasonable games for.

Not like Alien vs Predator is sitting on many people’s must buy list. The arcade game was amazing, but this is a really poor trade off and it’s left a really bitter taste in the mouths of many SNES gamers. If this wasn’t an Alien vs Predator game, it would have been forgotten long ago.

This is one the of rare reviews we do here that didn’t highlight the positives of the title. We like to challenge ourselves and defend games that we feel were wrongly called out; Alien vs Predator doesn’t have a lot going for it. No two-player option, no character selection, enemies take too long to die and to beat an average Alien, it feels like you need to spam that shoot move.

I’m glad I own this, like I mentioned, the LOCR has a certain soft spot for AvP titles and Beat ’em Games, but it feels like a real missed opportunity. It’s really missing those elements that made the Alien and Predator franchises so good, the story, the characters, the locations and the weapons.

For the Die-Hards and Collectors only, or if you can pick it up for a few bucks. Alien vs Predator is an expensive to purchase outright, but you’ll find in a lot of online auctions that the supply seems to outweigh demand.
