Atari Jaguar Console Review

Let’s check out the system and what it can do

So the Atari Jaguar was a really big review for us. Obviously I didn’t have the heart to let Bruiser know it flopped and failed abroad, but this console never managed to officially reach Australian shores. For that reason, owning a Jaguar here feels incredibly superfluous; this is the console we purchased for mainly sentimental reasons so reviewing it was difficult. Generally, we feel the Jaguar is generally unfairly portrayed, as a console designed to compete with the Sega Megadrive (Genesis) and the Super Nintendo, it’s strong. It’s only when you try and compare the Jaguar against the Sega Saturn and the Sony Playstation, it’s complex hardware and lack of third-party support meant the Jaguar didn’t stand a chance.

We were really happy to get our hands on this machine. The Atari Jaguar only has a small library of games, but with proper research and expectations you can really find some great, fun games. Our Jaguar collection is small, embarrassingly so, but we’ve only got games we enjoy which make the system worth it for us.

To help us really get an understanding of the console and it’s capabilities, we’ve incorporated a mini ‘Alien vs Predator’ review. We chose this as our game of choice, even though titles like Tempest 2000 are generally better received, because it’s exclusive,  In the near future, we’ll post a dedicated AvP review.

Even though the problems and issues with the Jaguar are well documented, we’ve gone ahead and published our first official and well-researched completely infallible blog post, 5 reasons the Atari Jaguar isn’t so bad.
