Streets of rage doesn’t need any introduction here in Australia, but, the LOCR was all about trying to educate and inform Australian audiences about what’s cool, and Streets of rage certainly falls into that category.
This game cemented the beat em up as one of our favourite genres, even though there were beat em ups on the Mastersystem and earlier games on the Megadrive, Streets of rage got everything right and showed us what the genre can be capable of.

The best thing I can say about this game, it’s not repetitive. The locations, enemies, weapons, moves, multiple endings, they all work together to make a game that’s fun and doesn’t stray into tedium.

Seeing as this is only the first game, any complaints I might have had have been amended in the sequels; things like more interesting settings and more moves.

Playing Streets of rage really made us go back to revisit some older games and gave us a renewed appreciation for the genre as a whole. A game that good should not be overlooked.
