Rambo 3 (Sega Megadrive (Genesis))

Rambo 3 doesn’t look like anything special, drab colours and settings, especially the gaol area, but it’s fun as an overhead run and gun. Rambo has the tools to take out an entire army and it’s great being able to blow up troop transport, tanks and helicopters. You can duck and weave between enemy fire and run laps around the enemy soldiers, picking them off one at a time. The mechanics for an awesome arcade game are here but if you’re not a fan of the Rambo franchise, the in-game references aren’t going to be enough to keep you coming back.

The over-shoulder shooting segments also add an extra element to the gameplay but I really believe this game NEEDS a two player mode… I suppose that would detract from the lone-wolf Rambo character (yeah, terrible excuse).

Overall, Rambo 3 is a heavily arcade experience and in my opinion, that’s a great way to design a movie tie-in. Rambo be a bit too bland for some, but if you can look past that, you’ve got a great game in there.
