Atari Jaguar Fighting Series

Atari Jaguar Fighting Games

Covering such classics as Kasumi Ninja, Bruce Lee and Ultra Vortek!

Why do we need a series for Atari Jaguar Fighting games? Because the LOCR got a second controller!

When I finally started looking for good multi-player Jaguar games… I was a little stumped. There’s nothing particulary original that the Jaguar offers but you can find a handful of sports games and fighters; and fighters are what I’m all about.

We’ve been wanting to do a fighting mini-series for a while and we already had a ‘Dragon: Bruce Lee Story’ script ready, and just recently we received the definitive Jaguar fighting titles, Kasumi Ninja and Ultra Vortek.

We had to do something with this little collection, so we decided to combine three episodes and take a look at these three titles, what makes them different and which one is the best.

Dragon Gets a really bad rep because it’s a slow, punch-by-punch game where you can only play as Bruce Lee, but it’s also interesting to note it’s the only Jaguar fighting title with a Co-Op option, giving it a little bit of redemption.

Kasumi Ninja is where most Atari Jaguar Fighting fans start and overall, it’s an adequate effort. It’s sense of humour and bizarre character roster really save this game from being forgotten, but it’s left a really bitter taste for a lot of people. The characters are totally unbalanced and it can be really easy or really hard, just depending on which character you choose.

I got both Ultra Vortek and Kasumi Ninja for the same price fromt he same seller (give or take a few dollars), but Ultra Vortek is generally harder to get your hands on and can cost a bit more… but if you’re serious about your Atari Jaguar fighting games (haha) this is where you’ll end up.

I should point out there are 5 fighting games available for the Atari Jaguar and we’ve only checked out three here (missing Double Dragon 5: Shadows Fall and Fight for Life). The goal was to look at the best fighting games for the Jaguar, and it’d be hard to argue that Double Dragon 5 is worth the purchase for the Jaguar. Fight for Life however is one we’ve wanted to get our hands on for a while. Keep an eye out for a Fight for Life review in the future to end the Jaguar Fighting Series, but here it is for now, the best action your second controller could wish for (unless you have White Men Can’t Jump, Raiden or Brutal Sports Football).
